![]() ![]() “God has put everything under the control of Christ. “Christ must rule until God has put every enemy under his control.” -1 Corinthians 15:25 (NOG) In fact, the Apostle Paul makes reference to this psalm in both 1 Corinthians and Ephesians. Immediately we can understand how this psalm is applied to the Messiah. We find the directive commanding, “Sit in the highest position in heaven until I make your enemies your footstool.” -(NOG) We find this psalm beginning with a directive from the Lord Most High to a lord, or king who was second in authority to God Almighty. “The Eternal said to my lord, “Sit here at My right hand, in the place of honor and power, and I will gather your enemies together, lead them in on hands and knees you will rest your feet on their backs.” -(VOICE) There are three stanzas in this short psalm. There are but seven verses in this psalm. Parts of it are also recited Shabbat, the Sabbath services. Purpose: Traditionally in the Jewish setting this psalm is recited as a prayer of protection. It is also a prophetic psalm foretelling of Jesus, the Messiah, Priest-King of the Jews. Occasion: This psalm is believed to have been written by David for possibly his own coronation or the coronation of his son Solomon.
